Sunday Best
Kyle Bunting is pleased to announce Sunday Best, a series of twelve unique artworks by artist Abidemi, created during a summer 2025 residency at the Kyle Bunting studio.

Exploring themes of spirituality and redemption, the works weave together storytelling and material exploration — examining how ritual, faith, and personal transformation shape identity. Through the reclamation of discarded materials, Abidemi draws a parallel between the act of salvaging and the human experience of renewal — suggesting that what is cast aside can be made whole again.
Composed of reclaimed leather, hide, epoxy resin, and hemp fiber, the works in Sunday Best reflect Abidemi's commitment to material intentionality. Each piece carries the history of its source materials, inviting viewers to consider the layered narratives embedded within texture, form, and process.

Shaped by movement. Grounded in material.
Abidemi Olowonira is a Nigerian-born assemblage artist based in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA and MFA in Houston, Texas. His work has been shown around the world, including the Sika Art Fair in Dubai and the Guangzhou Museum of Fine Arts in China, and in 2019 was awarded the Elle Decor Designer of the Year Award for his collaboration with luxury rug maker Kyle Bunting.
Largely utilizing recycled hides in his work, Abidemi Olowonira explores the nuances of oral histories and mythologies carried down through generations. In addition, he studies the dissemination of mythologies from varying cultures, finding startling similarities. Olowonira also uses his work to navigate cultural complexity such as heritage and displacement. He is currently investigating the dynamically complex Yoruba culture and its migration and influences in the diaspora.
